The Bike Doctor

The Bike Doctor

Bike Doctor is an outreach program of the Community Bicycle Center in Biddeford.  Bike Doctor is a self-contained, highly visible cargo bicycle that will be used to provide free bike repair to kids and their parents who live in Biddeford but who may be a little too far from the CBC workshop to get there on their own.  To schedule Bike Doctor to drop by, email Andrew.

Once a week, Bike Monkey’s bike repair program graduates, youth completing mandated community service, and experienced CBC participants will accompany the CBC’s lead mechanic pedaling into Biddeford neighborhoods to provide free bike repair for kids who cannot reach the CBC’s fixed location on Hill Street. We'll have the opportunity to meet our neighbors and develop new connections within our community.

National Charter Schools Week – Maine has joined the movement

In 2011, Maine joined 40 other states in allowing public charter school options for families of all income levels.  On May 1, 2012, the Maine Charter School Commission issued its first application package for potential founders of these new public education options, which are free to parents and open to all children without admissions tests.

The Maine Association for Charter Schools (MACS) will celebrate the great work accomplished by public charter schools across the country, where over 5,000 public chartered schools are serving 1.8 million students.

Saco River ferry to provide commuter passage to UNE community in three-week trial

Biddeford - Starting Monday, April 9, there will be an exciting new option for University of New England, Biddeford campus commuters traveling from the Saco-Old Orchard Beach area—an option that not only saves time, gas money, and parking aggravation, but also provides an opportunity to be part of history.
UNE’s Undergraduate Student Government has funded a three-week pilot river ferry, which will transport passengers between Camp Ellis, Saco and the UNE pier in Biddeford.  Anticipated operations will occur Monday through Friday, beginning this Monday, April 9th and ending April 27th.  The 18-seat ferry will make rounds during two different time blocks each day—7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 4:00 p.m-5:30 p.m., with each one-way trip taking approximately 10 minutes.  This venture will mark the first time that there has been an active Saco River ferry since 1925.
