Sam's Place opened originally in Biddeford, in the 1920's, by Sam Ocher. When his sons chose not to keep the store, it was sold to Harold and Bella Cowen, who moved it to Saco. At that time, they started to sell California Paints & Stains and started a custom framing department. Their focus was everything to decorate your home, so they did custom window treatments, sold wallpaper and art supplies so customers could hang their own art work and treasures in their newly decorated homes. Sadly, Harold passed away, but their son, Benard came home from New York and helped Bella run the store. Bella was a wonderful resource for homeowners for close to 39 years, here in Saco. Benard was well known for his skill with color. In 2009, the Cowens decided to take a well-earned retirement.

Better Than an Advent Calendar: Elf on the Shelf

Better Than an Advent Calendar: Elf on the Shelf

We were visited by a pixie elf the day after Thanksgiving this year. It’s the third year in a row he’s showed up. His name is Elfie.

My oldest son, G, named the elf. He was sent to us by Santa Claus himself. He comes every year the day after Thanksgiving. He’s even made appearances in New York City and Massachusetts when we were traveling for the holidays.

If you haven’t figured it out. I’m talking about Elf on the Shelf.

The rules are simple.
