The hidden hazards of regifting.

The hidden hazards of regifting.

So a few days ago, I wrote a little post about gift cards, and I showed off my secret stash of paper and plastic tickets to paradise.  Well, shortly after I put up the post, I was inspired to take stock of my collection and realized that this Christmas, I had received a $50 gift certificate to go see a show at a local theater.

TURNING YOUR PASSION INTO PROFIT!

TURNING YOUR PASSION INTO PROFIT!

Your Hobby CAN Be Your Inspiration!

Saco, ME, February 8, 2011 - -“What do you want to do with your life?”

When most people are asked that question, they consider the traditional path they were always taught:  Go to school, get a degree, learn a trade, etc.

However, with the unemployment rate predicted to continue at 9% for the remainder of 2011, a growing number of people are considering the possibility of an alternative path:  taking their hobbies and passions, and crafting a business around them.

For some, it's a matter of exerting more control over their own security and destiny.  For others, it's a necessity, as the job market simply has no room for them.  Many of the traditional jobs available just a few years ago no longer exist, and people have to think outside the box when trying to figure out their career path.

Why I'm breaking up with Whole Foods.

Why I'm breaking up with Whole Foods.

I rarely plan to go to Whole Foods. As a relatively new vegetarian still vainly attempting to recreate meat on her dinner table, sometimes I do find myself needing to get a specific item or two that I can only find contained within their four posh and perfectly manicured walls (have you seen their produce displays?)… but very rarely. Primarily, I find that I end up there accidentally (usually with a wealthier and far more health conscious friend), as a victim of a “Do you mind if we pop into the Whole Foods for a just sec? I just need to grab some tomatillos and a cask of bulgur.” situation.

Yet however I wind up there, the result is ALWAYS THE SAME. I can literally not enter through those sliding doors for more than 1 minute, without spending at least $20 (usually, on a single 10 lb. salad). Like somehow, $20 is the cost of the ferry ride to get to the other side of the pricey health food river Styx.

Adventures in coupon clipping services.

Last week when I was writing about coupon contingency plans, I mentioned the possibility of buying coupons from an online clipping service. I’d considered it before, but always got big case of the lazy (with a side of cheap), and decided that it wasn’t worth the risk of buying a bunch of coupons that I might not ever have the occasion to use.

KEEP A YEAR'S WORTH OF MEMORIES - Start a new tradition with Family Scrapbooking Night

KEEP A YEAR'S WORTH OF MEMORIES - Start a new tradition with Family Scrapbooking Night

As 2010 draws to an end, many people will gather to reminisce about the events of the past year.  Frequently, photographs and smiles are shared as  families remember the vacations, holidays, occasions and simple everyday moments that represent the year gone by.  Once we shout, “Happy New Year!” though, what happens to those photos?  With a New Year on the horizon, the old photos are often forgotten.
Instead of filing 2010’s photos on your computer or in a box, many local families are turning them into a new annual tradition!
Thanks to local scrapbooking expert, Tara Travis, they’re now having Family Scrapbooking Nights!
