Job Shadow Day 2013

 

 

Kickoff Friday, February 1, 2013

What: In an effort to encourage Maine students to strive for success, increase their knowledge of the business world, and gain a better understanding of jobs in the community, Junior Achievement of Maine will be launching its Job Shadow Day 2013 on Friday. 6th-8th grade classes throughout the State of Maine will be matched with a host business to shadow for the day. Job Shadow Day is part of a nationwide initiative that enables students to get an up-close look at the different career opportunities available to them when they are ready to enter the workforce.

When: Friday, February 1st from 9:30am-1:00pm

University of New England adds river ferry service to further reduce its carbon footprint
 
BIDDEFORD, Maine – In 2008, University of New England (UNE) President Danielle Ripich, Ph.D. signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment with the goal of reducing greenhouse gases and becoming carbon-neutral—a daunting challenge for an institution where transportation contributes significantly to carbon emissions. That same year, UNE faced a problem not unique to a growing institution—parking was at capacity and UNE needed to reduce the number of vehicles on campus or build a new parking lot, an unattractive prospect for this coastal university.
