Two Local Animal Shelters Working Together During the Holiday Season

The Animal Welfare Society (AWS), in Kennebunk, Maine, will be accepting 12 cats from the Coastal Humane Society (CHS) in Brunswick, Maine on Wednesday, December 29th. The cats will be transported via shuttle from Brunswick to their new temporary home in Kennebunk.

Due to AWS' fee-waived cat adoption program and a very successful fall and early winter of cat adoptions, AWS has an excess of available space for cats in need and was able to partner with CHS to assist them in finding homes for 12 of their resident felines. AWS adopted 214 cats in October alone. The upcoming cat transfer will be the first in the history of AWS and will help CHS free up space for additional local cats.

Upon the cats' arrival at AWS, they will be available for adoption shortly thereafter.

AWS waives the adoption fee on all cats 6 months of age and older.

FUNDRAISER

The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport will host a buffet breakfast on Saturday, November 13, to benefit the Marine Animal Rehabilitation at UNE. The breakfast, which runs from 7:30-10:00 a.m., costs $9.95 for adults and $4.95 for children under 10, and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to MARC.

“With our official mascot being Henry the Harbor Seal, we felt this was an important group for us to support, stated Tina Hewett-Gordon, General Manager of The Nonantum.  MARC plays an important role in helping to educate us all about the marine wildlife around us, so I am thrilled we can help in this way.”
