Mother and daughter reunited on Christmas after 27 years

SACO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Christmas is a time of helping others and giving gifts and celebrating family.

In Saco this year, it was all three in a single gesture.

Alice Gagne was pregnant at 17. Feeling she wasn't mature enough to raise a baby, she gave her up for adoption. The baby girl was born on Christmas day.

Alice wrote a letter to the new parents explaining her decision and hoping they would pass it along to her daughter some day. "Every year on Christmas I will wonder what she looks like. I bet she will be beautiful."

Amanda Culbertson got the letter from her mother when she was 16.

Alice used on online service to track down Amanda and the two have been in contact for some time, but never met.

Unbeknownst to her mother, Amanda made secret plans with her half sister, Kristina Speshca, to surprise their mother on Christmas Day.

Now the two are making plans for both of their families to meet.

HS Scoreboard: Monday, Dec. 23

NEWS CENTER - The final day of high school sports action prior to the Christmas break saw the Portland and Bonny Eagle boys remain unbeaten in basketball, while the Lady Bulldogs suffered their first defeat of the season.
