OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - As summer kicks into high gear many young people are right in the middle of their first summer job.
In Old Orchard Beach, a 12-year old girl has decided to take on much more responsibility. She has started her own business, Miss Meghan's Lobster Catch. It's a lot of hard work, for very little profit, but it's the learning experience of a lifetime.
Under her student license Meghan can have 50-traps out a time. Every couple of days she heads out with her dad Jay and brother Zack to haul them in.
While Meghan is learning first hand the age old tradition of lobstering in Maine she is also getting a good lesson in economics this summer with lobster at one of its lowest prices ever. After paying off the traps, buoys, bait and gas she doesn't expect there to be much left over at the end of summer.
"Next year it's going to go in a college fund for me and I keep a tiny bit of the money for clothes to buy and that type of stuff", Megahn said.
She may be living in a world of old salts, but she's still a girl on the cusp of being a teenager.
