Eastern Trail Annual Meeting. Join us Thursday, May 19 at 5:30 p.m. for the Annual Meeting of the Eastern Trail Alliance, featuring Alix Hopkins of the Biddeford RiverWalk Coalition. Come to the Saco Transportation Center in Saco, Maine to mingle with fellow trail enthusiasts and hear updates on recent progress and future plans for the Eastern Trail.

Winthrop, Maine.  April 2011— The Autism Society of Maine, the voice and resource of the autism community, announced today that April is Autism Awareness Month. This year’s theme “Improving the Lives of all Affected by Autism”  as the key to individuals with autism reaching their full potential.

What is Autism?
Autism is a developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. The result of a neurological disorder that affects functioning of the brain, autism and its associated behaviors occur in approximately 1 of every 110 individuals.

A Family Guide to Supporting a Loved One
Scarborough, ME – Hospice of Southern Maine and the Alzheimer’s Association will present several workshops across southern Maine to help families cope with and support a loved one dealing with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
The 90-minute workshop will be presented by Carol Palmer, an RN and program director with the Maine chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  Ms. Palmer, a former trauma nurse, hospice nurse and lead nurse for the office of adults with mental illnesses also served as a director of forensics and is a Viet Nam era veteran. She has been providing training about dementia and related conditions and behaviors for nearly ten years.
The workshops are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
