Three Maine Women Honored with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

In 2013 the Miss Maine Scholarship Program was proud to partner with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, an internationally recognized, self-development program available to all young people worldwide equipping them with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their communities, and the world.  This award bestowed by Great Britain's Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II's husband, began in 1956 and demonstrates activities in four areas: community service, special skills (talent), physical fitness, and adventurous journey (environment and teamwork). The award itself has three levels:  bronze, silver, and gold.  To obtain an award, participants aged 14 to 25 must demonstrate achievement at the appropriate level in various activities in the four sections.
