NATIONAL CRAFT MONTH SHINES A SPOTLIGHT ON SACO CRAFTERS!

Local scrapbookers and card makers celebrate their talents

Saco, ME, February 22, 2011 - - Crafters near Saco and beyond will take time during the month of March to celebrate National Craft Month 2011.  The Craft and Hobby Association estimates over 60 million households engage in some form of crafting each year.  Whether it’s needlepoint, beading, scrapbooking or card making, millions of people enjoy creating personal works of art.

Why is crafting so popular?

Crafting allows people to channel their creativity in a very satisfying way, as well as share that creativity with others.  Studies conducted by NYU and Harvard show there are physiological benefits as well.  Crafting can reduce stress and increase physical dexterity.   The report also shows crafting improves concentration, while enhancing health and mental wellness.

National Craft Month is the perfect time to try a new craft or hobby.  During the month of March, beginners and experienced hobbyists will gather at the Saco paper craft studio of Tara Travis to learn a new craft or sharpen their existing skills.  Throughout the month, Tara will host gatherings to help Saco residents explore the many different benefits of crafting.

Tara encourages former crafters to start crafting again and newcomers to jump into this fun and exciting pastime.  She is celebrating National Craft Month by offering the following opportunities for area residents to discover the satisfaction of creating their own hand-made works of art:

• Crazy 4 Cards Class, Tuesday, March 8, 6:30 p.m., Stamp with Tara Studio, Saco, ME
• PMS Night (Popcorn, Music, Scrapping and Stamping) , Friday, March 28, 7-10 p.m., Stamp with Tara Studio, Saco, ME
