ArtSpace Presents on Artist Live/Work Housing Projects at Biddeford City Theater

BIDDEFORD—Artspace, America’s leading nonprofit real estate developer for the arts, will give a free presentation on their artist live/work housing projects around the country on Wednesday, April 13, at 6:30pm at City Theater in downtown Biddeford. The presentation will offer development examples that could be emulated throughout Maine.

CELEBRATE STUDENT ART: RSU 23 Art Show

March 5 through April 23, 2011

Every other year, the Saco Museum comes alive with artwork produced by students in our public schools. This year, for the first time, the student art show will be on view simultaneously at the Saco Museum and Dyer Library, featuring artwork by students from Dayton Consolidated School in Dayton; Jameson Elementary School, Loranger Middle School, and Old Orchard Beach High School in Old Orchard Beach; and C. K. Burns School, Young School, Governor John Fairfield School, and Saco Middle School. The more than 2,000 objects on display include paintings, pastels, sculpture, and more. The exhibit is organized and curated by local art teachers Piper Bolduc, Debra DiGregorio, Martha Gagne, Joanne Matusko, Diane Noble, Judy Puiia, and Dawn Strandburg. All student artists and their guests will receive complimentary admission to the show.

Maine premiere of “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass” by renowned composer Carol Barnett

On Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2, 2011, vocal music students from Westbrook High School, Massabesic High School, Oxford Hills High School and South Portland High School will gather at South Portland High School to rehearse and then subsequently perform the Maine premiere of “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass” by renowned composer Carol Barnett, under the direction of Dr.Robert Russell. 

The culmination of the students’ work in this year's Choral Masterworks festival will be the performance of this unique vocal piece for the first time ever in the state of Maine, complete with a bluegrass band providing accompaniment, on Saturday, April 2 in a 4pm public concert at the Auditorium at South Portland High School. 

Admission for this unique musical experience is $5 per person with a maximum admission of $15 per family.  Tickets will be available at the door.

The Old Orchard Beach High School Class of 2011 presents The George Hamm Comedy Showcase

The Old Orchard Beach High School Class of 2011 presents The George Hamm Comedy Showcase to benefit the class trip and class night (Project Graduation) activities.
 
The benefit will take place on Friday, April 1 at the OOB HS gym with doors opening at 6:30pm and the show at 7:00pm. This is a mature content event and middle school students must be accompanied by a parent/adult.
        
Tickets are on sale now at Captain’s Galley Restaurant in OOB, Brady Screenprint in Biddeford, Jimmy, The Greek’s in OOB, Jack Trull, Class Night Advisor at Old Orchard Beach HS and members of the Class of 2011 parent group. Tickets are $15 each or 2 for $25.00.

York County Shelter Programs Selling Welcome Spring-Happy Easter Baskets

York County Shelter Programs will once again be selling
Welcome Spring and Happy Easter baskets.  Proceeds
from the fundraiser will help support the food pantry and
the meals kitchens that the Shelter operates.
Students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in
Dover will help assemble the homemade items for
the baskets.  Purchasers of the children's
Easter baskets (which cost $10) should indicate the age
and gender of the young recipient so the prepared basket
will be appropriate.
