Summer Exhibition: Voyages and the Great Age of Sail

SEAFARING EXHIBITION AT SACO MUSEUM A COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND

Saco, Maine— The University of New England and the Saco Museum will team up this summer to create an exhibition on the great age of sail in Maine. Dr. Elizabeth A. De Wolfe, Professor of History at the University of New England, and Camille Smalley, Program and Education Manager for the Saco Museum, will team-teach an exhibition class titled “Voyages and the Great Age of Sail.” The resulting exhibition of the same name, curated by students in the class, will feature a treasure trove of artifacts related to the Saco sea captain Tristram Jordan —paintings, decorative arts, navigational tools, and more—in order to explore nineteenth-century maritime history.

Movies: "Jumping the Broom"

Hollywood just loves wedding movies -- it makes so many of them.  And why not?  A wedding is a self-contained story arc with multiple characters.  There's romance, family intrigue, hot bridesmaids, hunky best men, lots of drinking and emotions running high.

Did I mention hot bridesmaids?

"Jumping the Broom" is a small wedding movie set in the prestigious African-American enclave of Martha's Vineyard (but mostly shot in tax-sheltered Nova Scotia), featuring a talented black cast, most of whom come from various TV series.

At center stage are Sabrina Watson (Paula Patton, Ms. Rain in "Precious") and Jason Taylor (Laz Alonso, known to some as Det. Gil Puente from the TV series "Southland").  They meet cute in New York, just after Sabrina has promised God she will not give away her "cookie" to anyone other than her future husband.

Fast forward six months, to the wedding weekend, cookie still undelivered.

JOHN PIZZARELLI, Jazz Guitar Master Returns to THE LANDING AT PINE POINT- This Thursday, May 12th!

John Pizzarelli, the world-renowned jazz guitarist and singer, was called “Hip with a wink” by Town & Country, “madly creative” by the Los Angeles Times and “the genial genius of the guitar” by The Toronto Star. After his recent smash success with the Boston Pops, he was hailed by the Boston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz.” And the Seattle Times called him “a tour de force” and “a rare entertainer of the old school.” Mr. Pizzarelli thoroughly dazzled our audience last year with his rapport, humor and absolutely fantastic musicianship.
