Drummer Jon Bangs to leave Hoboe, Zen Ben and Tanya Kelly celebrate birthdays

Drummer/trumpeter Jon Bangs will make his final and 41st appearance as the permanent drummer with the post-neo-psychedelic rock oboe outfit Hoboe, on Saturday, May 28 at Genos Rock Club, 625 Congress St. Oboist Zen Ben will also be celebrating his 40th birthday at the show alongside band friend Tanya Kelly who will be accompanying Hoboe on flute and keyboard as a featured performer.

Bangs is attributed with adding to the already non-conventionality of a rock band featuring an amplified oboe, by bringing his talent on trumpet, often playing it while playing drums at the same time. Bangs has also contributed vocals, songwriting, and is the drummer on Hoboe's debut CD, yet to be released. Bangs has  helped the band expand their musicality to achieve a more dynamic and melodically diverse aesthetic.
