YMCA, Disney On Ice and Kennebunk Rotary Club Partner to Provide Shoes to Underserved Children

Local Pre-school Kids are Putting Their Best Foot Forward!

Biddeford and Sanford, ME (Feb. 10, 2011) – This Friday, pre-school children from two local YMCAs will be culminating a recent community service initiative to help underserved children in Haiti and Guatemala.

In keeping with the YMCA’s mission to promote Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility, children and families from the Northern York County Family YMCA and Sanford-Springvale YMCA are taking a lesson from Cinderella on the importance of proper-fitting shoes. The two organizations recently partnered with the Kennebunk Rotary Club and Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics on a unique community-service initiative called “Putting Our Best Foot Forward.”

Inspired by Cinderella’s glass-slipper troubles, the children lead a collection of new and gently worn shoes, which are being donated to underserved children in Haiti and Guatemala, who historically suffer from disease and illness associated with not properly protecting their feet.

The children will present the shoes to members of the Kennebunk Rotary Club, who will arrange for the shoes to be delivered to families living in impoverished communities in Haiti and Guatemala.

The shoes will be presented on Fri., Feb. 11, 2011 10:15 a.m. at the Cumberland County Civic Center, followed by an exclusive mini-performance of Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics and a meet-and-greet with characters from the show.

Media are encouraged to attend.
