Thinking About Evolving Search Behavior

Thinking About Evolving Search Behavior

I had an interesting conversation with a friend recently about kids in school in these modern times. We were reminiscing on how we had to collect information for school reports – libraries, old magazines, microfiche, interviews with experts and encyclopedias.

Interview with Pat Keane - Mastering Engineer (he makes music sound good)!

Pat Keane may have one of the best jobs on the planet.  His job is to make music sound good.  He's the last step in the process for any recording artist when cutting an album.  He is a mastering engineer.  It's his job to add the final polish that turns a collection of music tracks into a complete album. On St, Patrick's Day, I had the opportunity to join Pat in his mastering studio and watch him at work.

Movies: "The Place Beyond the Pines"

Movies: "The Place Beyond the Pines"

The title is confusing, sounding perhaps like some teen horror movie, but it’s actually the Mohawk name for Schenectady, NY, where this complex, well-made film takes place.

It opens with a bravura steadicam shot worthy of Martin Scorsese, as we follow motorcycle stunt rider Luke (a blond, heavily tattooed Ryan Gosling) through a crowded fairground.  (The cinematography is by Sean Bobbitt, who delivers several more boffo set-pieces along the way, including a jumpy police chase.)

Mainers risk lives to help fallen, injured in bomb blast

OGUNQUIT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- John Mixon is a veteran of Vietnam, as well as the Boston Marathon - having run the race roughly 25 times in his life.  On Monday, Mixon was sitting in the VIP stands near the finish line with family members of fallen soldiers and supporters of Maine's annual Run for the Fallen when the unthinkable happened.

"We weren't really there to watch the elite guys, we were there to watch the guys for Run for the Fallen," explained Mixon, who was anticipating the arrival of the second of five runners representing the organization and wearing a shirt in honor of a military member from Maine killed in combat.

Incubating chicken eggs part 5 - Moving chics to brooder

We moved the chics to the brooder the day after the hatch.  Sadly the other two eggs mentioned in this video did NOT hatch.  Not sure why.  They had pecked one hole but didn't get any further.  I opened the eggs and found fully developed chicks inside.  The only think I can think of is that these eggs got jostled and rolled around as the other chics hatched.  Maybe that dissoriented them?

Stranded surfer rescued in Biddeford

BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A surfer who became stranded off Fortunes Rocks Beach in Biddeford Saturday afternoon had to be rescued when he became stuck in riptide.

Biddeford Fire Department Captain John Pothier said the surfer, who is a juvenile, was caught in riptide while surfing and called back to shore where his parents were for help.

Fire officials arrived on scene just before 2 p.m.  They called for assistance from a nearby Scarborough Fire Department marine unit.

Several firefighters on scene were equipped with survival suits and were prepared to go in the water, but Pothier said another surfer was also on scene at the time, and went out to assist the stranded surfer back to shore.

He arrived safely back on shore to meet his parents, and was treated on scene by rescue personnel.  He didn't suffer any injuries, and did not require transportation to the hospital.
